Gas: Methane
By: Katelin Kukk
Ethane is a colorless, odorless natural gas that is heavier than air. It’s a hydrocarbon that can be found in liquid form in rock formations, such as slate. Ethane plays a huge role in the petrochemical industry, primarily used to make ethylene, a key component in plastics and resins. Its production has steadily increased over the past decade due to its popularity. You can also find ethane in other consumer products, such as camp stoves, antifreeze, and detergents.
However, ethane is a highly flammable gas and poses risks if not handled properly. It may explode if exposed to heat, and high concentrations may cause symptoms like headaches, vomiting, lightheadedness, or suffocation. Make sure you are always working in a well-ventilated area and remain aware of your surroundings when near ethane.

Air Pollution is responsible for millions of deaths every year. Recognizing contaminants may be the difference between another day at the office and a trip to the emergency room or worse.
